Home Brew for the Holidays

OK, My name is Seth and I'm a Starbucks-a-holic... There, I said it.... I've admitted that I'm powerless over pricey coffee and that no human power can relieve me from my addiction.

So here's the math:

Venti Americano $2.85 x 2 = $5.70 me
Venti Latte $3.65 x 2 = $7.30 Suzanne
Daily Family dose =$13.00 (minimum)
x 365 annual =$4745.00

Espresso machine $700.
lb of coffee $10 x 52 $520.
Annual $1220.00

first year savings $3525.
Second year $4225.00

Break even = 60 days

The moral of the story? If you have a daily habit of Starbucks, and you can, truly, do the home brew (get a thermos!).... And you have been telling yourself that you can't afford the espresso machine....... The numbers show that we can't afford NOT to get the espresso machine!

Merry Christmas! Get a nice machine... just push a button! Steam the milk!

Now,if you've been making a special car trip to get the coffee shop, you've got some fuel savings, too! ( W00T! .. that officially became a word today... don't ask! ).

Sorry Starbucks! I'll probably have to stop shelling out $3.45 for a cup of yogurt, too!

This list is, by no means, new.... But some of these principles are timeless. We just need regular reminders.

Facebook App Analysis

Nice breakdown of the apps on Facebook by no-mans-blog

Facebook is still screaming "potential" to me. The community seems ripe for useful apps but it's not what the initial evidence shows.

There has to be more to life than throwing sheep and poking people .... I'm not even really interested in comparing movie tastes.

I am still finding some interesting applications on a daily basis, but there are no "transactions" of significance from me, as of yet.... It's not the place to book a flight, or rent a car.... yet. There are a fair amount of useful widgets, it's just that what's most popular on Facebook, are the nonsense apps.

More on this from activestate

I'm enjoying linking up with some old friends and aquaintances, but, in all truth, I don't have that much to say after the initial, "How are you?", "Where are you?."

The "groups" function and the applications help to discover others with the same interest..... and then what? This will be interesting to watch unfold.
